Hispanic Heritage Month is a special time to honor the rich histories, cultures, and contributions of the Hispanic community. In the midst of this reflection, we also want to extend our gratitude to Google For Startups for their dedication to promoting diverse voices.

Our co-founder and CTO, Zara Perumal, recently received a feature on google.com and was highlighted on their blog, an achievement that speaks volumes about her expertise and the broader importance of representation.

During her early years, Zara loved STEM and engineering and wanted to someday found a tech startup. However she didn’t know women in engineering or founders that looked like her. Having less examples of what this looks like made it harder to imagine the specifics of how to do this or make that dream a reality. The notable outlier was her Dad who as a computer scientist encouraged her interest in STEM and to take calculated risks. Years later in founding a startup it felt like a similar risk, but having a community of like-minded founders who share both background, and vision for solving new problems has been an amazing opportunity.

Google's commitment to funding diverse founders has been invaluable. Such initiatives don't just provide financial resources—they empower voices that might otherwise go unheard, leading to a richer and more varied entrepreneurial landscape. The support we've received at Overwatch Data from entities like Google has been essential in evolving our dreams into realities.
